2010 QuickCrit Music Survey - Individual Lists

Hooray! Thanks to the hard work of Ancient Indian Wizard the individual lists are up and once again the page looks great.

I encourage everyone to go and read each other's lists and witticisms. Although there was plenty of overlap this year, there were also quite a few great albums that were only mentioned once. Plus, it's fun just to see what a specific friend liked and to read their comments all at once. Who knows, you may find your musical soul mate.

Thanks again to everyone that contributed.

Top 10 Portland Albums from 2010

It was a great year to be a music fan in Portland. Between the local shows and buzzing national bands touring through town, every night there were multiple concerts I wanted to see. Even more impressive was the abundance of fantastic local albums. This list could have easily been a top 20 and that still would have left off a couple bands I like. However, these 10 stood out as the albums I loved the best and played the most often.

1. Hillstomp - Darker The Night (QC Review)

A two-man wrecking crew that pounds and sweats out the blues with hypnotic guitar riffs, 5-gallon buckets and a country-mile of duct tape.

2. Portugal. The Man - American Ghetto (QC Review)

A funky haze drifts over the album, riding moody psychedelic grooves into hook-laden choruses.

3. Pure Country Gold - Tough Tuesday (QC Review)

A howling and thumping blues punk duo that drag tired blues structures out to the garage to feed them amphetamines and drown them in cheap beer.

4. The Thermals - Personal Life

Consistently making the best pop punk album you’ll hear each year.

5. I Can Lick Any Sonofabitch In The House - Sounds Of Dying (QC Review)

The moan and squall of a harmonica plays foil to charging guitar riffs. Combined with shredded vocals and a pounding drum, it all whips up into a wild batch of rock n' roll.

6. Horse Feathers - Thistled Spring

Gorgeous and delicate melodies, vocals just above a whisper. Perfectly accompanies Portland's seemingly endless cold, gray winter days, and apparently ballet.

7. Boy Eats Drum Machine - Hoop + Wire (QC Review)

Their bouncing hooks and electronic island beats make me smile every time.

8. Blitzen Trapper - Destroyer Of The Void

Mellower than I initially hoped, but the lush harmonies and lyrics about wild and murderous characters won me over.

9. McDougall - Our New Histories (QC Review)

A folk-singing hurricane of a one-man band, pounding out the bottom end on a kick drum and high hat as he powerfully strums his guitar.

10. Guidance Counselor - Guidance Counselor (QC Review)

Sure-to-wake-your-neighbors, dance-beat fiasco tracks with wall-shakin' drums and spastic vocals.

2010 Music Survey Results - Top 50 Albums (1-10)

# 1
Arcade Fire - The Suburbs (August 3, 2010)

"The combination of epic anthems & suburban doldrums just does it for me. This was the first album I liked immensely immediately in a long while." - Cursivebuildings

"I knew it would be good, I didn't know it would be this good - like just turn it on & sit back for an hour listening at the kitchen table good. The mix of bland suburban themes & epic anthems just does it for me." - Anonymous

"I almost excluded this from my own list of nominees, based on the fact that I couldn't imagine The Suburbs NOT placing in the top 5 of every list.  I think I felt like it was an unfair fight.  Like the Harlem Globetrotters and the Washington Generals." - Tex

"The big news is that Arcade Fire sold a ton of records their first week. For some reason this caused a controversy... personally I would much rather have the youth of America, for just one week, be listening to The Suburbs than whatever else is usually beat over their heads. This is Arcade Fire turning introspective. Suburbs maintains their epic emotional power while showcasing a more subtle sonic approach. It suits them well." - Luc

"I don't know if Arcade Fire considers this a concept album or not, I haven't really read much about it, honestly. But it feels like a concept album to me, and it feels like they hit it just perfectly." - War Machine

"Soundtrack for a summer trip to the Austin, Texas suburbs." - Jeremy

"Was there a choice to not include this album?" - Ernesto

"Alright - it was engineered to make top ten lists. But it's good. And it's thematic. Whatever happened to the thematic album?" - JC Hackett

"The thinking man's music, Arcade Fire makes." - Mona

"All in all, at 16 tracks and an hour of playtime, this is an ambitious release that puts the band's genre-jumping range, thoughtful and poetic songwriting and exceptional talents on full display." - NightraiN

"Like a summer afternoon, this album makes you want to lay in the park getting soaked and drink champagne." - Layne

Recommended track: "The Suburbs"

# 2
The National - High Violet (May 11, 2010)

"In the time of track-by-track musical enjoyment and critique, High Violet shows that the summation can truly outweigh it's parts....sometimes putting a bunch of pretty things in a frame together can really make something outstanding.  As individual tracks leaked before this album came out, I found myself pleased, but not expecting it to place very high at the end of the year.  After a few listens to the whole package, coupled by a live performance in October, it is unquestionably my favorite album of the year." - Tex

"Something about The National is so deeply comforting and passionate that it makes me reflectively sad and inexplicably happy at the same time -- the perfect mix of musically induced emotion." - NightraiN

"To my mind, the best band working today. The music is rich and intricate, both lyrically and sonically, they've released three straight incredible albums which all sound different from each other, and they put on what might just be the best live show I've ever seen." - Jeremy

"If I was stuck on a desert island and could only listen to one band, it might be The National.  I used to prefer their older stuff... until they released this album." - Hotcatato

"The truth is High Violet was just 1 or 2 great songs from being at the top of this list. Ten years in, this band has finally achieved greatness ... The Boxer was their breakout and this moody masterpiece is the proof that it was no fluke.  Frontman Matt Berninger lays his soul bare on this one - Violet is a testament to broken love, anxiety, regret & guilt. "It'll take a better war to kill a college man like me..."  Well said good sir, well said..." - Luc

"Matt Beringer's vocals are what is to be expected from one of the most talented singers and song writers of the 21st century. Deep, dark and under-caffeinated." - Layne

"This is also a great record, a close second to favorite of the year. The music, as always, is real interesting & the lyrics are, as always, sad dude stuff that never strays into whiny territory (that's a plus!)." - Cursivebuildings

"Sometimes I wonder if this is just an adult male thing, but my friends & I listen to these guys & wonder how they manage to record our hearts." - Anonymous

"This seems like a pretty common choice but maybe there's a reason for that!" - Joanie

"Of course this one of my top picks. I fell fast and hard to this album and really enjoy Matt Berninger's sultry voice." - ve1cro

"I read somewhere that the National had intended to write a happy album when they started this thing. I'm fairly certain that's not possible. This one will remove an organ and put it on the table and demand you to look at it and reckon the reality of the situation you're presented with." - JC Hackett

"Like Frightened Rabbit, they make fairly nonsensical lyrics sound amazing." - TheCraneWife

"Good follow up to Boxer, but not quite as well rounded." - Taylor

"Dark and ethereal." - Mona

Recommended track: "Bloodbuzz Ohio"

# 3
The Black Keys - Brothers (May 18, 2010)

"Great album all around: I love their sound, good lyrics, and some great videos." - Julia

"I kinda feel bad for picking them every year, but then I listen to them, and don't feel bad at all." - Sandenuts

"Soulful, pounding blues. This is my comfort food." - awmercy

"Hard hitting, no frills, ROCK!" - Max D

"First time I listened I felt sure I MUST have heard these songs somewhere before.  This is the kind of music that would be a hit no matter what decade its released." - Hotcatato

"Exactly what you'd expect from the Black Keys." - War Machine

"Hard to get tired of this one." - Ernesto

"These dudes are legends already... this album and especially a few choice tracks just heightens their profile that much more. Sick." - NightraiN

"It's almost criminal how great this album is.  Catchy, bluesy-rock like this never goes out of style." - Mona

Recommended track: "Tighten Up"

# 4
Beach House - Teen Dream (January 26, 2010)

"Dreamy-pop at it's best." - Max D

"This album has a huge, atmospheric sound and this band has finally hit the truly haunting sound that they've been hinting at all along and which we all always knew was waiting to come out." - JC Hackett

"Its dreamy..." - Hotcatato

"The only thing I love more than wishing I could write sweet, dreamy indie pop is listening to a band that's incredibly good at making it themselves." - Mona

"Third time's the charm, Beach House!  I'd periodically listened to their first two releases over the last few years, almost getting to the point where I liked them, but never quite crossing the threshold.  Teen Dream grabbed my interest from the first listen, and it's really rewarding to see what this band has grown in to." - Tex

"There's a lot to titles sometimes. Beach House is probably the most ideal name for this band & "Teen Dream" perfectly describes their best album to date. Beach House's move to Sub Pop didn't change their sound much-lush indie pop set to a melancholy summer of love and heartbreak...It just boosted their recording budget to par with their awesome talent." - Luc

"Beach House's prettiest and most upbeat album perfectly captures that woozy late night/early morning feeling." - awmercy

Recommended track: "Zebra"

# 5
Mumford & Sons - Sigh No More (February 16, 2010)

"Lyrically...unstoppable." - Robert

"Oh, Marcus Mumford.  You make me want to pick up a banjo and celebrate the myriad ways that I love you." - Mona

"Hearing them harmonize last summer at Sasquatch on a side stage at 2pm was one of the most awe inspiring things I have witnessed in quite a while... 'nough said." - Abbie

"This is my favorite album to listen to when I'm looking for inspiration." - Julia

"Fantastic album - really works wonderfully AS an album." - Anne

"This London-based quartet, whose name sounds more like a general store or cobbler shop than a band, takes their vocal harmonies and instrumentation real seriously, with nearly every track making a slow-building skyward arch until your heart is lifted and your speakers are overflowing with sound." - NightraiN

"Marcus Mumford's voice is gruff and romantic. When combined with beautiful harmonies and the strum of a banjo, it makes for perfect folksy ballads." - Brasilliant

"Perhaps too too folksy at times, but perfect if you are in the mood." - Ernesto

Recommended track: "Little Lion Man"

# 6
Vampire Weekend - Contra (January 12, 2010)

"The tragedy of Vampire Weekend is this: haters perceive them to be ivy league brats attempting to infiltrate their indie rock world. Truth is that VW are a soulful garage pop band that has managed to infiltrate & give us a glimpse the blue blood world. "Contra" is  a minor miracle in 21st century music- a perfect pop album, organically created by a rock band who is not afraid of obscurity or fame." - Luc

"I actually did not enjoy this album the first time I listened: call it a case of second child syndrome.  With further listening I realized the continued genius of this band; seriously, how many genres can one band seamlessly wrap into an album!?" - Abbie

"I would have put money on this one being a sophomore slump.  Vampire Weekend's debut album was so good, so quickly accepted by so many people of different attitudes and tastes, that it had to be a fluke.  In fact these guys are genuinely talented, and show great songwriting, production decisions, and marketing (exception being trusting that the album cover photographer had all of his release-signing ducks in a row).  I'm excited to see what's coming up next." - Tex

"Eminently listenable; infectiously fun." AnnMT

"I don't understand what this album has to do with California.  Whatever." - TheCraneWife

"I still love horchata!  The drink and the song..." - Ancient Indian Wizard

"Even though the lead singer creeps me out this album is hard not to like. "Holiday" is so catchy that it takes up permanent residence in your head after one listen." - Layne

"Last year, this was my most anticipated album of the year. I'm just glad it's not heading up my overrated list. Tight album. Looking forward to their junior year." - JC Hackett

Recommended track: "Horchata"

# 7
LCD Soundsystem - This Is Happening (May 18, 2010)

"LCD Soundsystem takes first for me even though this is a more uneven album than my #2 because Dance Yourself Clean is one of the best dance tracks I've ever heard. It starts quiet, so you have to turn it up, then builds the suspense, then hits you with this incredible wall of sound. Just perfect. You can't play it loud enough. I Can Change is great as well. I've even come to appreciate Drunk Girls." - War Machine

"I couldn't stop listening to this album all year long.  It only gets better." - Patrick

"Not their best album - I had some high hopes - but still very good." - Julia

"I love a dance party!!!!!!!!!!!!!  And I have been known to be a drunk girl!!!!!" - Abbie

"Brutal and exposed. The guy is really finding his sound. "I Can Change" has a great spin." - JC Hackett

Recommended track: "Dance Yrself Clean"

# 8
Frightened Rabbit - The Winter Of Mixed Drinks (March 9, 2010)

"So many good songs full of manic strumming." - awmercy

"Hello old friends, so happy that you joined me this year!" - ve1cro

"Best named album of the year. The contents of this book is up to par with its cover. That almost makes no sense..." - Rain

"They make the line "are you a man or are you a bag of sand?" sound not ridiculous." - TheCraneWife

"A great album with probably the best title of the year; however, a slight drop-off from Midnight Organ Fight, which was magical." - NightraiN

"Big percussion sound and a large voice and usually some well-placed clapping... a CD to jog to but also to get ya looking inward. Their cliched lyrics and dead metaphors are somehow fresh... not quite sure how." - JC Hackett

Recommended track: "Swim Until You Can't See Land"

# 9
Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (November 22, 2010)

"I know it's been said a million times now, but this really is the best album of the year." - Ben

"Pretty much all of the songs save one or two are brilliant and fantastic.  And those one or two are pretty offensive." - TheCraneWife

"Kanye is such a bitch, but fuck if I don't love all of his albums.   In my mind he's kind of like R Kelly - so crazy, so sincere about their crazy, and so good at whatever it is they're doing." - Hotcatato

"Named to sell albums and capitalize on his scandal. Strange thing? He has the talent to back up the hype." - JC Hackett

Recommended track: "Runaway"

# 10
Jonsi - Go (April 6, 2010)

"I'm gonna quote myself here...  'Jonsi from Sigur Ros can certainly make mundane tasks feel a lot more epic...'" - Ancient Indian Wizard

"Taking the pop from the last Sigur Ros album and putting it center stage while maintaining a unique sound." - Robert

"Jonsi speaks the language of love. I always feel inspired and happy after listening." - ve1cro

"I bet you already know Jonsi is gay, but did you know that he is also blind in one eye?" - TheCraneWife

"Fans of Sigur Ros will not be disappointed by frontman Jonsi's solo efforts... In fact "Go" may earn him many new friends (fans of Passion Pit & Animal Collective listen up please). Bright, textured & propulsive "Go" is like Sigur Ros on speed... without forfeiting any of Ros' epic-ness. If that makes any sense." - Luc

Recommended track: "Go Do"

# 11
Deerhunter - Halcyon Digest (September 28, 2010)

"Simple, smart, and lush. Mark Bolan lives on through Bradford Cox!" - Max D

"Deerhunter went and made themselves an album that is listenable, accessible, but not short on substance. Lyrically, their most engaging album yet." - JC Hackett

"Hard to pick a favorite song, because this is an album I always listen to completely.  This is an album to listen to in its entirety in one sitting.  And then maybe one more time again, because its that good." - Hotcatato

Recommended track: "Revival"

# 12
The Tallest Man on Earth - The Wild Hunt (April 13, 2010)

"I never have a ranking for music, which screws up Awmercy's system, but this is actually my number one album.  It's that good." - TheCraneWife

"Saying that an artist sounds familiar in some ways is probably considered a kiss of death.  However, when I say that this album sounds familiar I mean it as a compliment.  For while it sounds like an old friend it simultaneously sounds new and refreshing..  It's weird.  Just listen to it once.  Chances are it'll tug at your heartstrings." - Ancient Indian Wizard

"What a fantastic year for Kristian Matsson.  Not only did he release a stellar album AND EP, but he's really attracting the attention he deserves.  The Tallest Man on Earth showed great promise as a modern singer songwriter on 2008's A Shallow Grave, and he delivers a fully realized set of skills as a full blown troubadour with The Wild Hunt." - Tex

"The critics of the world are often quick to praise the pathfinders–the wildly original artists that thumb their nose at the musical status quo. Sometimes it is more challenging to breath new life into an old form. Kristian Mattson is an old fashioned, heart on the sleeve troubadour with just a guitar,  a rugged voice and some great folk melodies. It is a time honored formula but The Tallest Man has carved his own distinctive niche. He is a songwriter & performer to watch in the coming years." - Luc

 Recommended track: "King of Spain"

# 13
Yeasayer - Odd Blood (February 9, 2010)

"Did this album only come out this year? Seems like forever ago. Doesn't play all the way through well, but the first part of the album is great." - War Machine

"I almost forgot about this one–some brilliant songwriting and great eclectic sound." - Taylor

"Dang. How'd these guys get so catchy? I'm certainly not complaining." - Hotcatato

"Tight and woven and a personal pick because you haven't seen life until you've seen a four year old rock out to these tunes." - JC Hackett

"Regardless of your feelings toward Jethro Tull, this album is fun, upbeat and as expected from Yeasayer, a lotta bit trippy." - NightraiN

 Recommended track: "Ambling Alp"

# 14
The New Pornographers - Together (May 4, 2010)

"The first 15 seconds of "Moves" has got to be one of the best song intros of all time." - Lauren VD

"Neko I want to have your babies!  Well, that and learn to whistle…" - Abbie

Recommended track: "Crash Years"

# 15
Portugal. The Man - American Ghetto (May 11, 2010)

"Just listen to it." - Ernesto

"Brilliant. P.TM never disappoints." - Julia

"They are funky and fun. They rock the house every time. Their videos are bad-ass. Love me some P.TM." - NightraiN

"A funky haze drifts over the album, riding moody psychedelic grooves into hook-laden choruses." - awmercy

 Recommended track: "The Dead Dog"

# 16
The Roots - How I got Over (June 21, 2010)

"Still edging out Kanye because I find myself reaching for it more." - Jeremy

Recommended track: "How I Got Over"

# 17
April Smith And The Great Picture Show - Songs For A Sinking Ship (February 23, 2010)

"A friend invited me to see April Smith & her band at a $10 show at DC9. I had no idea what to expect and knew 2 songs in I would buy the album. She's starting to hit it big–rightfully so. Clever lyrics and just an all-around fun vibe." - AnnMT

"So much fun and so different from a lot of other music coming out by women right now–cheeky, clever, heartfelt, just a wonderful new artist." - Anne

"April Smith and the Great Picture Show sounds like they could have stepped out from a '30s or '40s cabaret. If their sound doesn't make you jump up and do a jig, then you are a lost cause." - Brasilliant

Recommended track: "Colors"

# 18
The Morning Benders - Big Echo (March 9, 2010)

"Melody, melody, my lord the melodies." - Cursivebuildings

"A great all-around album, but just lacking the punch of a top tener." - NightraiN

Recommended tracks: "Excuses"

# 19
Surfer Blood - Astro Coast (January 19, 2010)

"They're still in college? How jealous am I?" - Ari

"In a lot of ways, this was the year of the axe. And these guys are lumberjacks. Or Middle-Earth dwarves. Awesome riffs & muddy vocals with way too much wisdom for their age." - JC Hackett

"These were my jams all winter and I played the shit out of them. The best of the fuzzy buzzing surf pop scene." - awmercy

"Carefree lyrics and vocals, reverberating chords, and surf guitar fill. There are exactly zero reasons not to check this band out." - NightraiN

"Shitty band name and album cover...  (I think I said the same thing in our halfway through the year thingy) anyways.. ruling album!" - Ancient Indian Wizard

Recommended track: "Swim"

# 20
The Walkmen - Lisbon (September 14, 2010)

"Something about the twangy rasp of Hamilton's voice mixed with the almost retro guitar and soft drums allows you to escape the over-saturated electro dance genre of 2010 and transports you to an era where good music, with talented musicians exist." - Layne

"I'm a sucker for vibrato. Throw in some melodrama and big drums (timpani!) and you've got a winner for me." - JC Hackett

"I have a pretty major crush on Hamilton.  Love love the way they jangle on this album." - Hotcatato

Recommended track: "Juveniles"

# 21
MGMT - Congratulations (April 13, 2010)

"When I was a kid, I heard the Supertramp song "Breakfast in America" and I was, somehow, deeply affected by it. This bubblegum pop song made me feel like I was, in a way, rushing towards a future that contained things my 10 year old consciousness couldn't fathom. Well, 30 years later, this album makes me feel that way too. Or, I may be having a stroke..." - Rain

"A classic sophomore curveball. Congratulations finds MGMT abandoning their synth-pop utopia for much darker territory. This is the comedown, the freak-out... the claustrophobic nightmare after the dream. Transfigurations this violent can be frightening for the world at large but make no mistake- this is a work of courageous quality and you get the feeling that this may just be the beginning of a brilliant career." - Luc

# 22
Kings Of Leon - Come Around Sundown (October 19, 2010)

"Kings of Leon could write songs about unicorns and fairy dust and it would still sound sexy. The gut wrenching, sexified vocals of Anthony Followell are still there and could make any girl swoon (or make out with the closest guy)" - Layne

"The music was a little slower than what I anticipated." - Julia

# 23
Twin Shadow - Forget (September 28, 2010)

"Soaked in the '80s. Love those thumpy bass lines and Talking Heads-esque vocals. Rising on the significant other scale as the year ends." - Jeremy

"'At My Heels' creates an instant dance party in our house...  even for the member of our family who can't walk yet." - Ancient Indian Wizard

# 24
Broken Bells - Broken Bells (March 9, 2010)

"We used 'The Ghost Inside' in a skate clip at work this year.  I got to hear the song like 100 times and I still love it." - Ancient Indian Wizard

"I was sad when the Shins stopped making interesting music. This album combines James Mercer's unique voice with an updated sound. Solid album" - Brasilliant

# 25
The Gaslight Anthem - American Slang (June 15, 2010)

"Fresh and refreshing, but with an old-style influence and character. So awesome on album & in person." - NightraiN

"Fuck those Jersey Shore kids, Gaslight's killer tunes make me proud to be a Jersey native." - Mona

# 26
Wolf Parade - Expo 86 (June 29, 2010)

"A solid third release from a band that always puts out flawless and exciting indie rock albums.  I fucking love Wolf Parade, there's really not much else I can say." - Mona

"Perhaps the greatest triumph of our modern independent rock is it's acknowledgment & mastery of every era of rock music. Wolf Parade's Spencer Krug & Dan Broeckner seamlessly merge the hiccup of post punk & 90's indie with the guitar crunch & epic scope of classic rock. Expo thinks hard and rocks harder... and it's damn good driving music." - Luc

"Another artist whom I'd come close to finding kinship with in recordings past, Wolf Parade nailed it for me this year with Expo '86.  Another band I should have seen live this year but had to miss, sadly. Dreamy, ominous, and rockin'." - Tex

"This has been a grower on me... Jerky, jumpy and energetic." - NightraiN

"Love everything they do, but needs a little more time to marinate." - Ernesto

# 27
Hillstomp - Darker The Night (July 20, 2010)

"A two-man wrecking crew that pounds and sweats out the blues with hypnotic guitar riffs, 5-gallon buckets and a country-mile of duct tape." - awmercy

"My favorite new band this year. More banjo please." - Sandenuts

# 28
Gorillaz - Plastic Beach (March 9, 2010)

"Very different kind of sound (as always) and pretty awesome, though I wouldn't say I loved all the songs." - Julia

# 29
Sharon Van Etten - Epic (September 21, 2010)

"Great songs, outstanding voice. I'm a sucker for a little slide guitar too. One song sounds like The Cranberries and I don't even mind." - Jeremy

# 30
Free Energy - Stuck On Nothing (May 4, 2010)

"Feel good classic rock. Every song feels like a celebration of youth, friends and just having fun." - awmercy

"Like awesome 70s FM radio never went away. And, for my own list, something other than Americana/roots." - JasonT

# 31
Josh Ritter - So Runs The World Away (May 4, 2010)

"Josh Ritter fell in love and it shows on this album. His songs are weighty and elegiac and full of strength of emotion. Mad props to Folk Bloodbath, where Delia and Stagger Lee meet." - AnnMT

# 32
Justin Townes Earle - Harlem River Blues (September 14, 2010)

"Doesn't do rock like his father Steve Earle, but does just about everything else that "Americana" could include: country/folk/blues/rockabilly/ragtime. And even Philly soul and gospel, thanks to the influence and help of former Drive-By Trucker Jason Isbell. Low key, short (30 minutes), but really amazing in its grasp of roots music." - JasonT

"Signs of songwriting genius here. Hope he can stay clean long enough to bring us more." - AnnMT

# 33
The Books - The Way Out (July 20, 2010)

"Sound collage. Found words and texts. Great orchestration. More than absurdity or noise -- there are great stories filled with ambiguity in these songs. Demands to be listened to again and again." - JC Hackett

# 34
Crazy Heart Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (January 19, 2010)

"More Ryan Bingham-centric music, but he anchors a collection of songs that includes Townes Van Zandt, Buck Owens, Lightning Hopkins, Waylon Jennings and even "The Dude" himself. The first movie soundtrack I've gotten in years." - JasonT

"Good mix of old alt-country songs and new ones. These are the songs you find yourself humming three days later." - AnnMT

# 35
Ra Ra Riot - The Orchard (August 24, 2010)

"I'm not sure if many other people are with me on this album, but it hit me like a ton of bricks.  At the time I had just broken my clavicle and I needed something to be amped on.  This album was what I needed." - Ancient Indian Wizard

"I like singing along to this album. Just try it." - ve1cro

"Romantic indie pop with catchy riffs that makes my heart melt." - Mona

# 36
Shout Out Louds - Work (February 23, 2010)

"Never Not Winning" - TheCraneWife

"Moody, full of longing and right up my alley." - Ancient Indian Wizard

# 37
She & Him - Volume Two (March 23, 2010)

# 38
Titus Andronicus - The Monitor (March 9, 2010)

"Hated it at first, then it grew on me like a mofo." - Taylor

Tift Merritt - See You On The Moon (June 1, 2010)

"Tift Merritt is one of my all time favorite singers. I set the bar high and she delivered." - Brasilliant

"Merritt's voice has never sounded better: lilting, rich and soulful." - awmercy

# 40
Janelle Monae - The ArchAndroid (May 18, 2010)

"Funky, fresh, funny, and genre bending." - JC Hackett

"Sci-fi R&B with a Metroplis-inspired cover and its own dance, "The Tightrope." Can't go wrong here." - Jeremy

"I love a good concept album. Can't decide if I like or love this one, but I keep listening to it, so I guess that's something." - AnnMT
