Julia’s Top 10 Albums from 2017

The War on Drugs - A Deeper Understanding
My favorite album of the year to rip a sweet air guitar solo to

Lorde - Melodrama
I tried to get so many people into this album this year, I think it's perfect.  I love her lyrics.  I love her spangly pop beats.  I love when she reminds me of Kate Bush.  I love it when the beat unexpectedly drops.  I love the last song, Perfect Places, so much that I started listening to it on privately on Spotify so no one would notice.

Rostam - Half Light
I have liked everything Rostam has done ever so no surprise I also loved his first solo album.  It's beautifully layered and catching in a surprising way.  I danced, I swooned, I told my Dad to listen to it.

Kendrick Lamar - DAMN

Courtney Barnett/Kurt Vile - Lotta Sea Lice
The best Sunday Music.  I don't know whose hair I am more envious of.

Future Islands - The Far Field
Emotional synth-pop, this album gave me a lot of feelings.

Alex Cameron - Forced Witness
To quote a friend, who was quoting Silicon Valley when I played this for him.... "Oh this guy fucks"  (Can you say fuck on quick crit?)

Mount Eerie - A Crow looked at me
I have listened to this album 4 times total.  Only on headphones, never with another person.  But it belongs here on this list because I can't stop thinking about it. It's devastating and haunting.  It describes grief in the way that I recognize, breathtakingly sad but also full of absurd mundane moments.  Best album to cry to, don't you dare put this on at a part unless you want everyone to go home.

The National - Sleep Well Beast

Wolf Parade - Cry Cry Cry
