Jay Reatard - Watch Me Fall (2009)

No surprises here. The new Jay Reatard album is packed full of manic pop nuggets that are equally dark and gleeful. However, aside from the blistering opener, "It Ain't Gonna Save Me", he's toned down most of the furious punk screams and guitar squalls that made his last few albums feel like they were written by a man on the edge. The songs are still short bursts overflowing with hooks and snarky lyrics that I love. It's hard singling out favorites, but the creepy "I'm Watching You" and the disturbed "Wounded" are perfect examples of how he's incorporated prettier elements into his distinct sound.

Oh, and right now the album is still a cheap (<$5) download at Amie St Music. Cool.

I love the body slams, knuckle sandwhiches, and ponys. Oh and the song is pretty catchy too...

I am not sure if it is the best or worst birthday party ever.

You going to see him when he comes to Portland? Will you throw your panties at him?

It's a free concert in a record store. How can I not go? Especially, since I was out of town (and obviously bummed) the last time he played in Portland.

I guess you have to consider your options: will the radness of throwing your panties at Jay Reatard outweigh the possibility of being banned from a record store?

Brasilliant... that might be the best QC comment ever. For serious.

Yo JG! Does the camera guy looks like Boberto circa early 1970s or what?
