Patch’s Favorite Albums from 2015

The World is a Beautiful Place and I am No Longer Afraid to Die - Harmlessness
This album in its entirety feels very complete and extremely well-crafted. I listened to this album more than any other this year.

Bully - Feels Like
I wish I could make this album tie for first. This entire album is solid and there are some definite stand out hits. The vocals are so full of life and passion, and the lyrics are full of coming-of-age angst. A truly fantastic album.

Hop Along - Painted Shut
Frances Quinlan's vocals are powerful and addicting. Maybe this album isn't for everyone, but it was definitely a highlight of my year.

Father John Misty - I Love You, Honeybear
Having seen Father John Misty perform live several times this year, I don't know if his showmanship has colored my view of the album and catapulted it to the top. The whole album is refreshingly sarcastic and very well-crafted.

Girlpool - Before the World Was Big
There was a solid week of this year where I didn't listen to anything else besides this album, and there are many other artists in this list that are obviously a direct connection to my Girlpool obsession. There is something hypnotic, yet raw about all the tracks in this album, and as I'm writing this I want to go back and listen again.

Chastity Belt - Time to Go Home
Definitely in the same vein as Girlpool. This Neo-Riot Grrrl bands have been a mark for me this year, and I believe it has been a banner year for the genre. With artists like Girlpool, Chastity Belt, Colleen Green, Tacocat, and so many others, 2015 can't be beat. Chastity Belt's Time to Go Home is a wonderful addition.

Tame Impala - Currents
A really psychedelic album from a consistently great band. The song "Cause I'm a Man" has been on of my most played singles this year, that I shamelessly sing along to and recommend to others. Currents is a really solid album.

Speedy Ortiz - Foil Deer
Speedy Ortiz is yet another band in that punk-esque that is currently dominating my submissions. Foil Deer features wonderful musicianship and fantastic lyricism. Speedy Ortiz has been a go-to this year and will likely stay that way for years to come.

Sleater-Kinney - No Cities to Love
It's awesome to see a return of Sleater-Kinney, and it's awesome to see them return in such strong form. No Cities to Love is familiar yet refreshing.

Eskimeaux - O.K.
Gabrielle Smith singing and songwriting is definitely "cutesy" but there is something about this album that hooks you and pulls you. The album revolves around a juvenile yet complicated love that feels like a indie-movie in the best possible way.

Courtney Barnett - Sometimes I Sit and Think, Sometimes I Just Sit
A very solid album from Courtney Barnett.

Deerhunter - Fading Frontier
Deerhunter produced an amazing album this year, but it just didn't find itself inserted into my music stream very much.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Asunder, Sweet, and Other Distress
Despite being a scant 4 songs long album, all the songs are top-notch and merit repeated hearings.

White Reaper - White Reaper Does It Again
Very reminiscent of King Tuff and Bully. This addition shouldn't come as a surprise considering all of the indie-punk music previously mentioned in my top 10 list.

Big Grams - Big Grams
A collaboration between Big Boi and Phantogram. This "Seven Deadly Sins" themed album was a constant guilty pleasure of mine this year.

Great list. I agree, so much great rock n roll from women led bands this year. You might also dig Summer Cannibals, Big Quiet, Pins, Sheer Mag, the Ghost Ease, Cat Hoch, Is/Is, La Luz, Patsy's Rats, and Westkust, just to name a few of my favorites this year.
